Robert Tepper was born on October 8, 1953, in Bayonne, New Jersey, United States. He is a rock and pop singer and songwriter, best known for his song “No Easy Way Out,” which was featured in the soundtrack of the film Rocky IV.
Early in his career, Tepper moved to New York, where he worked as a staff writer. During this time, he met Benny Mardones, with whom he co-wrote the song “Into the Night,” which received a Grammy nomination.
In 1985, he signed with Scotti Brothers Records and relocated to Los Angeles. That same year, actor Sylvester Stallone included his song “No Easy Way Out” in Rocky IV. The track reached the Top 40 and peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986, bringing him wider recognition.
Later, several European labels released dance versions of the song, and in 2008 the band Bullet for My Valentine recorded their own version.
Tepper released two solo albums with Scotti Bros Records, although they received limited promotion. He later became a member of the hard rock band Iron Butterfly for a period of time. His third album, No Rest For The Wounded Heart, was released exclusively in Europe in 1996 under the MTM label.
In 2009, Sony/BMG reissued his first two albums digitally. In later years, Tepper focused on composing music for film and television, as well as contributing to a musical.
